TITAN A.E.
TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX
RELEASED 28 July 2000
The year is 3028 and mankind is a nomad race, hunted down by the viscious Drej, an alien race which destroyed Earth. Only Cale (voiced by Matt Damon) can offer hope, a ring he wears containing a map leading to the mysterious Titan spaceship. A blend of traditional animation and CG work, Titan AE looks better than it deserves to. Some of the ideas work well (the Drej being made of pure energy) but there are gaping plot holes, the ‘futuristic’ rock soundtrack is terrible, and the script is bad, too often characters given to grunting when words would be far preferable. Kids might be able to look past these deficiencies and enjoy the onscreen action. Other voices are supplied by Drew Barrymore and Bill Pullman. Definitely NOT one for adults.
