Rubber Stamped!

It seems none of the local people on the local Tory party ‘A’ list were suitable to represent Old Bexley and Sidcup in the forthcoming national election for a new member of parliament.

All four local councillor candidates were brushed aside and three women and one male candidate from Central office remained on the final selection list.

The local association rubber stamped the choice of Hornchurch member of parliament James Brokenshire, a young Essex born forty year old who trained as a solicitor and is the present shadow Home Affairs Minister for Crime Reduction and Community Safety. He’s married to Catherine and has three young children Sophie (6), Jemma (3) and Benjamin (2).

Commenting Ann Morrison Chairman of the Old Bexley and Sidcup Conservative Association said: “We are delighted to welcome James to the Constituency and look forward to working with him to return a Conservative Government to Parliament at the next Election”. He has said he will be moving to the constituency.

Christchurch By-election

The Chronicle visited a number of polling stations in Christchurch ward late afternoon of July 3 only to find the turnout had been very low during the day. The election was created due to the prompt departure of Ian Clement who decided to join the Mayor of London’s team rather than staying on to lead the local Tories.

Council dump 60,000 tonnes of waste to landfill!

Bexley council has a new secret Draft Waste Management Policy which they have so far refused to share  with readers of the Chronicle. They have allegedly spent £1m of tax payers cash buying new waste bins which have been gathering dust in a council yard. They haven’t told Chronicle readers what their new collection arrangements will be, what the bins must contain, or when they will start! And what arrangements are they making for the elderly and disabled?

Although businesses in Bexley pay huge sums in rates only residential properties are apparently being given the new green waste bins free of charge, the thousands of businesses, large and small will still send their ‘household’ waste to landfill.

Sporting Quiz

If I am ever asked to attend a quiz night when I know the questions will be about sport I’m going to ask Donna Anderson of Rutland Gate, Belvedere to come with me. She is again the winner of our July Sporting Quiz winning another £10.  Well done Donna.
