MyMonth-RichPoliceFrozen cash in Iceland!

I listened in to the webcast where members of the GLA questioned the police representatives about their losses in Iceland.

I don't know about the rights or wrongs or judgements made in this matter but what surprised me, and I'm sure a few Chronicle readers was the news that the police were investing up to £200,000,000 and £300,000,000 A DAY!

Everyone it seems that relies on the public purse one way or another seems to have excesses of cash to invest.  Bexley Council, our schools, the police.   Why can't this cash buy us more police, smaller classes in schools and less council tax! Write and tell me what you think?

Night Owls

Are you a night owl?  Someone who goes to bed at about eleven, sleeps for a few hours and wakes up for one reason or another. If you then tune in to Radio Kent and listen to Rod Sharp one of the most engaging voices in the early hours covering a multitude of stories from all over the world. A truly fascinating programme with excellent content.  If I happen to sleep through the night I awaken feeling that I must have missed something.  Tune in and let me know what you think.

Wasted lives

Looking through the Metropolitan police emails I can't help feeling youngsters who get themselves involved in stupid acts of bravado or carrying knives or punching and kicking someone less able than themselves should reflect how they will feel the day the judge hands them down a sentence of five, seven or nine years in jail. Those who were taken away from their families to do national service only had to serve two years.  They did no wrong, just served their country.  They could tell our wayward young minority a thing or two about being removed from civvy life.  It's not worth it.

Our MPs

I guess everyone has had a belly full about members of Parliament and their gravy train allowances scheme.  Personally I skipped all the pages the Telegraph devoted to it. Talking to a large group of elderly people recently they all seemed hot under the collar about what MPs earn and I reminded them that a week is a long time in politics and when it comes to their turn to vote next year they will have forgotten all about the so-called scandal and vote for the candidate selected by them for their constituency. By then it will be history and no paper will bring it up at election time.

The Mall win!

The Bexley First project has reached its final goal, the selection of a developer to be the council’s project partner in the scheme to redevelop the present civic office site in Bexleyheath which will provide new smaller offices for the council plus a selection of homes, a department store and new shops.

The site itself is almost opposite the empty giant Woolwich Building Society offices which Tesco want to pull down and open as a new supermarket complete with housing around its perimeter. This has received some concern by a few residents and local councillors who will doubtless raise their concerns for the same reasons about the new project across the road.

The Chronicle believes it is a brave decision by The Mall and council. Whether Bexleyheath or Bexley borough has the necessary indigenous population to make the project work only time will tell.
